Mechanics of nozzle clogging during direct ink writing of fiber-reinforced composites

چکیده
Nozzle clogging frequently occurs while printing fiber-filled polymer inks with extrusion-based additive manufacturing processes, which limits the quantity of fibers that can be added to matrix, part fidelity, and geometric accuracy process. Both in situ X-ray radiography ex computed tomography were used explore mechanisms contribute nozzle clogging. Three considered, fiber volume fractions ranging from 1% 5.75%, nominal lengths 150 470 µm. These results showed specific produced clog depended substantially on fraction, length geometry. Specific included log-jam pileup misoriented near tip, lodging a entanglement accumulation at step-like reductions profile. Suggestions reduce prevalence are presented.

Fracture Mechanics of Fiber-Reinforced Composites
Quantitative understanding of the parameters which control composite fracture is imperative to the implementation of fail safe design and inspection of critical load bearing structures. For isotropic materials, fracture is essentially controlled by a single parameter, e.g., the fracture toughness or the stress-intensity factor. This one dimensional nature lends itself to experimental quantifica...

متن کاملCreep Behavior of Basalt and Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites
The creep behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy (BFRE) and glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites was studied through tensile testing at high temperature. To study the effect of reinforcing epoxy, the micro glass powder (MGP) was added at various volume percentage into the epoxy resin in BFRE composites. The initial strain for all the specimens were evaluated and compared with each ...
متن کاملAccelerated Heat Aging Study of Phenolic/Basalt Fiber Reinforced Composites
One of the greatest impediments to use polymer-matrix composites is their susceptibility to degradation when exposed to the elevated temperatures and the limited knowledge on the thermal and mechanical properties of these composites at such temperatures. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of accelerated heat aging on the tensile properties of the Woven Basalt/Phenolic (WBP) ...
